Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
